Happy International Women’s Day! Today, we celebrate the social, economic, cultural and political achievements of women all over the world. But it also marks a call to action for accelerating gender parity.
We’re celebrating today by highlighting some wise words of some very smart, strong and self-made power women we met the last couple of years. Hopefully, their words will encourage you to of becoming the best version of yourself possible.
MAKEUP AND HAIR ARTIST ALEXANDRA BORCILA ON DEDICATION
Alexandra: “Stay focused, set goals and enjoy everything in between. I’m really happy with the place where I am right now. I got here through hard work and dedication. I don’t take anything for granted. The more experienced I get, the more work there is for me. Every situation is different and a learning lesson for the future.”
ANNA NOOSHIN ON HER PIVOTAL MOMENT
Anna: “After my study, I traveled across the world. When I came back home, I send out lots of applications, but every time I had an interview I was told I was too ambitious for the job, ha! I simply had too many ideas. Someone told me to open my eyes and start my own business. At first, I felt kind of confused, but I understood the message and knew I had to do what I loved.”
ELLE EDITOR MONIEK MOERLAND ON WORKING EXTRA HARD
Moniek: “Go the extra mile and do more than others are willing or able to. It really pays off. It might be difficult at the moment, but you’ll be rewarded in many ways.”
MANON HANSSEN-MEYERING ON NOT LOOKING FOR WHO YOU ARE
Manon: “One of the biggest challenges in life is not looking for who you are, but allowing yourself to be you. You already are who you are. And the ‘who you are element’ always changes. So don’t try to define yourself too much and instead let it flow and embrace you for being you, without really needing to know who that you is. All you need to know is that you are love and that you are loved. And that the universe always has your back.”
RENU KASHYAP ON THE QUALITY EVERY STYLIST SHOULD HAVE
Renu: “Stylists are true fighters! So I’d say perseverance. You need to find ways to bend a ‘no’ into a ‘yes’. It’s good to be inventive and negotiate when you want a specific look, but always make sure you live up to what you promise a client. Be nice, charming, but never manipulate. In the end, styling is all about goodwill.”
GLAMOUR EDITOR STEPHANIE BROEK ON DEVELOPING A PERSONAL STYLE
Stephanie: “When I was younger, I was so afraid of making a fashion faux pas that I didn’t dress the way I wanted. What really influences how I dress now, is that I constantly fall in love with special items. I tell myself to invest in a timeless basic, but by the time I’ve finished that thought I’ve already bought a new shiny showpiece…”
